Can changing my credit card number, with the same credit card company, give me some protection?

I have had the same credit card number for many years. I use it to automatically pay several bills, and to make purchases on the internet. They give a little cash for points and promise good protection. So I would like to keep the company but change the number. Someone at the bank tells me that if it makes me feel better change it. But that I would be no better protected.

You would not be better protected, it would be the same. No need to change the number unless your card has been lost or stolen.
Protect you against what? If you’ve had no problems, why change the account number?
I disagree, I think that every few years it is smart to change the number on the same account, the credit card company will just issue you a new card, and you will have to change the number on your internet payments. My mother has done this a couple of times, it makes her feel safer, that someone has not learned her account number
