Ok when I was like 11 or 12 my identity was being fasely used for credit purposes. I now have a daughter and just recieved her social security number and was wondering how can prevent someone from falsely using it thus helping her not to have to endure waht I have gone thru.

I know that adults can place a “freeze” on their credit with all three national bureaus for a fee. It prevents any new credit from being opened unless it is verified with the individual first. Whether that can be done for a minor child, I’m not sure; might be worth asking.
A great service to sign up with is LifeLock. You can get to them through my site at. Look under “Identity Theft.”
Lifelock is a credit protection company that gives you a million dollar guarantee that your identity won’t be stolen. The owner of the company even advertises on the radio by giving his name and social security number out as proof that nobody can steal his identity!
They will put a “fraud alert” on all your credit reports and renew them every 90 days when they automatically expire. Fraud alerts force credit bureaus to call you for verification that someone can pull your credit. This way you know if someone is trying to steal your credit.
They do a host of other things and the price is very reasonable. I signed up with them last year because I live in Phoenix, which is the identity theft capital of the US right now.
Good luck to you!
A credit freeze is the most secure way to protect your new baby’s identity. Since she’s not going to be needing to apply for credit anytime soon, go ahead and freeze it.
Mistakes should not repeated again, just take an advantage of this facility to freeze credit of your baby without any delay.. and I know you’ll also feel comfortable in your mind after it. So take care of yourself as a mother while securing your baby’s future.
