The only advice I have is to not buy anything online unless it has SECURE written all over the website! And of course, don’t give your SSN to anyone or your credit card # and so on and so forth.
A few months ago, I had my credit card number stolen over the internet, but luckily my bank was on it and took care of things immediately. I think it started from something I bought over the internet for a Christmas gift.
Speaking from experience, the most important thing is to guard your social security number with your life.
Without your SSN, any account in your name cannot be linked to you.
Never put your SSN on your printed checks. Never give your SSN to anyone unless you know absolutely sure that it is absolutely required and that it will be secured.
Take it from me. I got hit hard by letting mine slip.
Get in touch with all three credit bureaus and put a freeze on your credit. This prevents anyone from pulling your credit without you calling and removing the freeze.
keep your wallet with u at all times.
never give anyone your SSN, unless it for taxes, apartment, car loan, credit cards..
don’t leave important paper around so people can see it..
and shred your paper before u put it in the trash..
Use secure websites only
Protect your information by destroying all credit offers (don’t just throw them in the trash), making sure your deposit/withdrawal slips are secure (don’t drop them in the bank trash can or let them toss them in the dumpster), make sure the ATM is secure from onlookers and that nobody’s standing too close to you when you make a transaction, keep your computer secure (firewall, etc) and don’t give your information to ANYONE over the phone. Be aware of phishing also…some of them look so legit it’s scary! is a great article on the subject even if you’re not AARP-aged!
The most appropriate site for your question –
